Thoughts to consider:

Desire is the word for the play...
There is something that you do not know — always pushing to figure it out — to fill the abyss of desire
If you recognize desire then you want to satisfy desire then we will have pleasure — but this text takes it deeper — it is a search to understand the difference

English is an active language — you decide what to say as you say it... like French
There is darkness to penetrate The client — continuai search for light through the darkness
Language — the effort of speaking is more important than the idea
No morality — no judgment
Past and Future - I had it and I will have it... I !lever had it — but I will have it for you
Lust vs Pleasure
The paradox always exists
There is an evolution of action — take advantage of the action verbs
There is a constant affair with light and dark
The strangeness of suffering is very clear
The brute and the young ladies — this references the feminine aspects of the client

Metaphors of the world
Dealer - The world sits on the top of the bull-horns — surrounded by darkness
Client - the world sits on the top of whales — surrounded by water — or light - metaphors come from where? What culture? At the end the path of thinking is quick
The trinity — the dealer explores ail three as he discusses desire

Comparison to the process of doing theatre:

• One moment for all to change
• The client — uses the occasion to say the words b/c of the sound of the words — not the meaning
• I do what I want when I want — similar to the way the client speaks pg 5. This is not just human feelings — but must be compared to elements — sun, moon, sea, King Lear — we just decide what play to do — and then we push the limits of theatre — use imagination, voice, etc. It is the art of theatre — cannot be the end because we need it
• The Dealer — section 12 — He has corne to fill the abyss — not to experience pleasure — it is the reason we do theatre — it is the futility we experience while creating theatre
• The Dealer section 23 — this is a moment of complete willingness to give yourself completely
   

Text / spoken notes:

• Suspense of sound — there is a sound for the past and a sound for the future
• The sound continues on past the period — the resonance continues into the next thought. Necessary — satisfy — desire Universal understanding of humanity Use the text to call different illusions through gestures such as the Vietnam war or martin Luther King center When we find movement / path / blocking during rehearsal — we will find it together so that it reflects the language - we don't know where they are because it is not humai) space Sometimes when we do not find the meaning and understanding — then we must respect the repetition
• The actors' job is to speak the words — it is Eric's job to put the color on with the lights, the rhythm, the scenery etc... There are always interactions We will explore images of death: religiously, clinical, etc... "The audience should feel it is about death

The Dealer:

• he is an actor — everything he says is being invented in the moment
• beginning of play — he is alone — speaking to audience — or to himself — the beginning there is nothing but this place
• Section 12 — he is not here to give the audience pleasure — to interact with you — just to make them think and feel something — to feel the elements of desire
• Page 22 is the Dealer's 14th section — There were 14 stations in the path of Christ while he was carrying the cross (14 important moments on this journey) - we had titled this paragraph "The Prayer"
• D4: There is no injustice for the world, there is arrogance and there is violence"

The Client:

• The dealer feels the chill of death from the client — this is somehow related to suffering... to live is to suffer.
• Paragraph C13 is called "In the Courtroom" due to the word testify
